One of the world’s most popular dessert fruits, pineapple’s name is derived from the Spanish word ‘pina’, meaning ‘pine cone’, due to its physical resemblance. The pineapples used in gelativo sorbet are grown in north Queensland, where they were first introduced to the Cooktown area over a century ago.

Low in calories, pineapples are also a rich source of vitamin C, dietary fibre, B complex vitamins, and minerals such as manganese and potassium.
